An Orphan Betrayed
Author(s):
Bill Hayden
Ada Somerset and her daughter, Carolyn, have hired an orphan girl, Mary Morrison, ostensibly to serve as a personal maid. Actually, they plan to trick Mary Morrison into assuming the role of Carolyn's recently departed cousin who was "lost" in a shipboard accident. Ada controls a fortune she will lose if the girl's death is discovered. However, the Somersets plan not only to pass off Mary Morrison as the missing heiress, but to have her committed as insane so they will control the money forever. Fortunately Alan Regent, assistant manager of the hotel (and a psychology student), sees through the fraud and rescues Mary Morrison from life in an institution and places her within his heart.
